Your First Visit

Excited for your first orthodontic appointment? You’re about to start an exciting journey toward your dream smile! Your initial consultation appointment is more than just a meet-and-greet—it’s the first step in your personalized path to better dental health.

Feeling a little nervous? That’s totally normal! Whether you’re a teen excited for braces, an adult curious about Invisalign, or just exploring orthodontics, this appointment is your chance to learn, ask questions, and get comfortable with the process. It’s a friendly check-up and conversation rolled into one.

Think of this visit as the roadmap to a healthier, straighter smile. Let’s get to know your teeth and goals, and set you up for success!

As you get ready for your orthodontic appointment, a little preparation can go a long way in making your visit smooth and easy! This is the first step toward your perfect smile, and being prepared helps everything go more smoothly.

    1. When you schedule your free consultation, you’ll get an email with a link to fill out some forms. Please complete and return them as soon as you can, so we’re ready for your visit!
    2. Before your appointment, be sure to brush and floss thoroughly. Clean teeth are key for a great exam, helping Dr. Wirant get the best view of your teeth and gums. It’s a small step that makes a big difference!
    3. It’s also helpful to write down any questions or concerns you may have—whether it’s about a specific tooth or treatment options like braces or aligners. Having your thoughts written down ensures nothing gets missed.
    4. Don’t forget to check your dental insurance coverage, so you’re clear on what’s included. Bring any necessary insurance documents with you to make the financial part of your visit easier.
    5. Finally, try to arrive a little early. This gives you time to settle in, fill out any paperwork, and start your consultation feeling relaxed and ready. We can’t wait to see you!

What to Expect at Your First Orthodontist Visit

When you walk through the doors at John M. Wirant, D.M.D. Orthodontics, you’ll be welcomed with friendly smiles! Our team will guide you through the check-in process and make sure you feel comfortable every step of the way. Here’s what you can expect during your first visit:

  1. Getting to Know You
Dr. Wirant will start by reviewing your medical and dental history. This helps him understand any past dental work, pre-existing conditions, and any concerns you have about your smile.
  2. A Thorough Check-Up
Next, Dr. Wirant will take a close look at your teeth, gums, and jaw. He’ll check for alignment issues, bite concerns, or crowding to get a full picture of your oral health.
  3. Cool Technology for a Closer Look
To see what’s going on beneath the surface, he or a team member may take X-rays or digital scans. These high-tech images help create a personalized treatment plan just for you!
  4. Exploring Your Treatment Options
Once the exam is complete, Dr. Wirant will go over the best treatment options for your smile. Whether it’s early treatment, traditional braces, clear aligners, or waiting to start treatment at a later date, he’ll explain everything so you can make the best choice.
  5. Breaking Down Cost & Payment Plans
One of our team members will walk you through the cost of treatment, discuss insurance coverage and payment options. We offer flexible, finance-free options to make your journey to a perfect smile as stress-free as possible!

The initial consultation visit is a great time to ask questions, share your preferences, and get to know your orthodontic team. With a tailored treatment plan, you’ll be on your way to the smile you’ve always wanted!

Appliance Care

An orthodontic appliance is a device that helps gently move your teeth or adjust your jaw position over time, such as braces, aligners or an expander. It is especially important to keep your teeth clean while wearing any orthodontic appliance to prevent decalcification (white spots) or tooth decay. Please see the video below for a demo on how to brush your teeth while in braces.
